Chelmsford
Chelmsford is about eight miles from where Reef is based in South Woodham Ferrers, which makes it the place he visits most often. Same-week appointments are usually possible, and if you are in Great Baddow, Galleywood or Moulsham he is probably passing anyway.
Everything happens in your own house. There is no clinic to drive to, no car park at Meadows or Chelmer Village to negotiate, and no waiting room. For someone who has stopped feeling confident on their feet, that alone removes most of the reasons people put off getting help.
Coming out of Broomfield
Most people in Chelmsford who have had a fall, an operation or a spell of illness come home from Broomfield. They arrive back weaker than they went in, because muscle goes quickly on a ward, and then the community physiotherapy waiting list does what community physiotherapy waiting lists do.
That gap is where most of our Chelmsford work sits. Reeflex is not a replacement for the NHS team and does not pretend to be. Where a reablement package is already running, Reef fits around it. Where nothing has been arranged, you do not need a referral to ring.
Why the house matters
A Victorian terrace in Old Moulsham has a staircase that is steep, narrow and turns at the top. A 1930s semi in Springfield has a straight run with a decent handrail. A flat at Beaulieu Park has a lift but a long walk from the door to it. A bungalow in Writtle has no stairs at all but often a step down to the garden that nobody has thought about.
These sound like small differences and they are not. Practising stairs in a clinic tells you very little about whether someone can manage their own. Working in the house means the assessment is about the actual obstacle, and the plan is about the actual goal, whether that is getting back up to your own bedroom or walking to the shop at the end of the road.
What happens
Before anyone books anything, Reef will talk it through with you or a family member. If physiotherapy is not the right answer, he will say so.
How you move now, what has become difficult, and what you want to be able to do again. Measured properly, so progress can be measured too.
Exercises sized to where you are today, not to a textbook. Family kept informed, with your permission.
Questions
Usually within the same week, sometimes sooner. Chelmsford is close enough that it is rarely the diary that holds things up. Ring and ask rather than assuming.
No. You can contact Reeflex directly. If it helps to keep your GP or the Broomfield team informed, we will do that with your permission.
Not at all. Reef visits sheltered and retirement housing across Chelmsford regularly. It is worth letting the scheme manager know he is coming, but nothing more than that.
Yes, and a good deal of the work is care home based. That runs a little differently, so there is a separate page for care homes.
£120 for the first assessment and £100 for follow-up visits. There is no package to sign up to and no minimum number of sessions. The first phone call is free.
Yes. Writtle, Boreham, Little Baddow, Danbury, Broomfield, Chignall and Sandon are all comfortably within range, as are most of the villages either side of the A12 and A130.
Get in touch
