After joint replacement
The operation is the easy part to understand. What comes after is where people struggle. You are sent home with a sheet of exercises, a follow-up in six weeks, and a knee that will not bend as far as you were told it should. Nobody watches you do the exercises. Nobody tells you whether the pain you are feeling is the normal kind or the kind worth mentioning.
Reeflex fills that gap, at home, on the stairs and in the chairs you actually use.
What we work on
Before surgery too
If the operation has not happened yet, the weeks beforehand are worth using. Going into a knee or hip replacement with more strength and better movement tends to make the recovery shorter and less frightening, and it gives us a baseline to measure against afterwards.
People often only think to ring once they are home and stuck. Ringing before the date is on the calendar is usually the better call.
What happens
What was done, when, and how it is going. Reef will tell you honestly whether more physiotherapy is what is needed.
Movement measured, strength tested, walking watched. On your stairs, not on a clinic step.
Exercises sized to this week and progressed as you improve, rather than the same sheet for three months.
A real example
One of our written case studies follows a client through rehabilitation at home after a knee replacement, with the assessment findings and the plan set out in full.
Questions
Usually not. Progress is faster in the early weeks, but people who are months out and stuck at a certain point often improve once someone looks properly at what is holding them back.
Most NHS blocks are short and group based, which suits plenty of people. Where it does not work is when someone needs longer, or needs it in their own house on their own stairs. That is the gap we fill, not a criticism of the NHS.
Some discomfort while working the joint is expected. Pain that is getting worse week on week, or that comes with heat, swelling or redness, is not, and should go to your GP or surgical team. Reef will tell you which one he thinks you are dealing with.
It depends on the assessment. Some people need a handful over a few weeks, others prefer a check-in every fortnight for longer. There is nothing to commit to up front.
Reeflex travels out from South Woodham Ferrers and covers Essex, and further afield when the diary allows. Chelmsford, Maldon, Danbury, Billericay, Wickford, Rayleigh, Basildon, Southend-on-Sea, Brentwood, Braintree and Colchester are all regular. If you are not sure, ring and ask.
Get in touch
